Emily Crawford and Olly Lewis are ocean lovers through and through. Inspired by a deep love and respect for the ocean, they set out to create a bikini company that helps to clean instead of pollute the ocean and the planet.
All of their bikinis are ethically manufactured in Bali, from regenerated fabrics. They use ECONYL nylon yarn, which is made from recovered fishing nets, carpets, and other waste, and REPREVE nylon, which is made from pre-consumer waste by recycling nylon fibers during the manufacturing process. They also use safe and eco-friendly dyes on all of their pieces that meet global independent testing and certification system STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX. All swimwear is delivered in plastic-free compostable packaging placed inside compostable satchels made from cornstarch. To top if off, Raw x Salt uses carbon neutral delivery services on orders throughout Australia to help offset their carbon footprint on international orders.
Aside from incorporating sustainable practices into their bikinis, they use ethical ones as well. All of their suits are manufactured in Bali, where all of the workers involved in making the sustainable swimwear are well looked after and given the opportunity for career advancement. The workers are paid at least double the legal amount and have medical insurance—as a result, many have been with the company for over ten years.
With so many good things backing the company, I had to give their swimwear a try for myself. I recently received the ‘Knot One Sided’ top and ‘High ‘n’ Waisted’ bottom in a beautiful, deep-blue shade.

Sustainable, retro, and modern swimwear!
The bikini is retro yet modern all at once. The high-waisted bottoms are flattering and have a slimming effect, with an old-fashioned appeal mixed in. The top can be worn tied off to the side or behind the neck, allowing for a fun and funky look or a more traditional look with the halter style top. Both pieces feel silky smooth to the skin and fit like a glove, making them ideal for a day on the bay or for navigating pumping surf. The material is thick and the quality and love put into the designs is obvious—I have no doubt this suit will remain in my collection for many years.
“We like living our lives slowly, so we introduce limited collections and pieces instead of seasons,” say Em and Olly. “We design all our pieces to be worn in multiple combinations so you can wear them longer. In every decision we make, we try to be as raw as we can. Jump on the salty wave with us.”
