About Poseidon Paddle & Surf
In addition to their own product line, Poseidon Paddle & Surf carries stand up paddleboards from Sunova, Laird, Riviera, Naish, Starboard, Rogue, Surftech, Hobie and Boardworks and stocks paddles from Quickblade, Poseidon and Kialoa. The shop is adjacent to the Santa Monica Pier, just one block from the beach, and has a robust rental business alongside their retail offerings. The shop also carries skateboards, ukuleles, beach apparel, wetsuits, sandals and a wide selection of accessories and beach necessities. A small selection of cold beverages is also available on-site.
Poseidon Paddle & Surf’s primary customer base is Los Angeles locals looking to buy or rents SUP’s and Surfboards, and locals interested in taking surfing or SUP lessons. Due to their location near the Santa Monica Pier, they also receive a lot of tourists looking to try surfing for the first time, take one of their personalized SUP lessons in Santa Monica or Malibu as well as buy a keepsake t-shirt or hoodie to remember their LA experience.
Around Town
Poseidon sits near the finishing point of America’s historic Route 66 and is within stumbling distance of the famous Santa Monica Pier – home of the world’s largest solar powered ferris wheel. There are an endless number of restaurants and bars in the area, but if you are looking to find out where the locals go you may want to try Chez Jay’s across the street from the shop. It’s a dive bar with a premiere seafood and steak menu. Chez Jay’s has been serving celebrities and locals since 1959. Drop your peanut shells on the floor and not the bar top or else you’ll get kicked out! Just down the street, Cora’s Cafe serves an excellent breakfast and great coffee. And lastly, if you are in the mood for a casual lunch or dinner, you might want to consider paying a visit to Cha Cha Chicken for some down to earth Caribbean food where the owners allow patrons to bring in their own beer and wine!

Poseidon Paddle & Surf offers personal SUP surfing lessons in Santa Monica, Venice and Malibu. Beginning each spring, the Poseidon Collective gathers a downwind group on Saturday mornings in Malibu. The downwind outings begin in March, email the shop to be included on their distribution list.

LA Waterkeeper’s Stand Up For Clean Water takes place every April at Paradise Cove, Malibu.

The Malibu Downwinder is usually held around the beginning of May and is a classic SUP and prone paddleboard race that wins in the vibe department with a uniquely no frills SoCal beach atmosphere and always includes a traditional Chumash opening ceremony, beautiful downwind course from Pt. Mugu to Leo Carrillo State Park with a BBQ dinner and awards ceremony.

Poseidon Paddle & Surf hosts the Annual Tommy Zahn Downwind Prone and SUP Race in August in Malibu. The course features a eight to nine mile downwinder with a lunch and awards ceremony. The course typically starts at Zuma Beach and ends at Surfrider Beach next to the Malibu Pier.
