If you’re anything like me, your dog is you go-to adventure buddy. He hikes with you, camps with you, and of course, paddles with you. And much like a child, if your fur baby’s not happy, you’re not happy.
Every time we’re out on the water (or the trail), I do my best to ensure the experience is a positive one for both myself and my furry sidekick. Before we head out, I do a thorough gear check to make sure Koa and I have everything we need to stay safe and happy. The more fun we’re having, the more Koa will want to keep coming back for more.

For years, I’ve bought dog essentials from local pet stores or off Amazon. They have the basic gear but not everything as durable as we’d like for our adventurous lifestyle. When we discovered P.L.A.Y.: Pet Lifestyle and You, everything changed.
The origin of P.L.A.Y.
P.L.A.Y. began when the owners were unable to find a high quality, aesthetically pleasing bed for their dog, Momo. After lots of hard work and research, they met with a San Franciscan artist and together they created a bed that was a work of art. They slowly expanded their line to include indoor beds, outdoors beds, portable mats, toys, pet teepees, dog tents, water bowls, and everything in between. With all of their products, they prioritize making great designs, using high quality manufacturing processes, using planet-friendly materials, and making their gear available at an affordable price.
After hearing about our active lifestyle, P.L.A.Y. sent Koa an outdoor bed, portable water bowl, training pouch, barbell rope toy, and a water bottle to put to the test.
The ultimate test, what did Koa think?
When the package arrived, Koa immediately pounced on it—he knew it was his. When I offered him the contents, he grabbed each item from me and began parading around the house with his new toys. It was love at first sight.
Let me just start by saying, Koa has gone through a lot of beds. He thinks they are chew toys and within a week they resemble a rag doll. We’ve had the bed for a few months now and it looks as good as new. It’s tough and durable, so we know we can take it anywhere and everywhere and Koa will have a comfortable place to lay his head.
As for the rest of the gear, we use it regularly. We use the training pouch to store treats and poop bags for when we work on key commands on our daily walks. We bring the water bowl and bottle on our adventure outings—the bowl is collapsible, making it the perfect piece of travel gear. The rope we save for special occasions, and Koa has a blast chasing it down our hall or across the beach. Every piece of gear is extremely high quality and I am confident it will last for years to come.
Keeping it Green
When choosing gear for myself, I try to select sustainably made products wherever possible. When it comes to Koa, that isn’t something I typically think about because there aren’t many eco-friendly options available to dogs.
As if we needed another reason to love them, P.L.A.Y. uses planet-friendly materials whenever possible and incorporates recycled bottles into their beds. They use minimal packaging and all of their paper tags are made from paper that is certified safe by the Forest Stewardship Council. Due to their efforts in sustainability, P.L.A.Y. is Gold Certified by Green America’s Green Business Certification Program.
