Eco Swimwear That Supports the Waters In Which It Was Made to Swim

Indigo Swimwear was founded in 2018 in Encinitas, California by Philippa Brennikmeyer. Brennikmeyer was born in California, but grew up in Germany, where she developed aspirations of travelling the world and doing something meaningful with her life. A lover of all things beachy, Brennikmeyer decided to found a swimwear company with a purpose in mind: to support the waters in which it was made to swim.

From start to finish, Indigo Swimwear is committed to protecting the environment and keeping the oceans 100% waste free. Indigo uses ECONYL yarn in all of their pieces, which is made from 100% regenerated nylon that comes from old fishing nets and ocean waste. Packaging, hangtags, and drawstring bags are all eco-friendly as well. To take her efforts one step further, a percentage of profits from each piece support beach cleanups in Bali through the R.O.L.E Foundation’s ‘Zero Waste to Oceans’ initiatives as well as local beach cleanups in California through the Surfrider Foundation.

I recently caught wind of Indigo and being a sustainably minded bikini lover, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a suit and test it out. Before departing on a spring trip to Kauai, Hawaii, Brennikmeyer sent me four different suits to accompany me on my trip.

Indigo’s suits are stylish and feminine yet functional and durable. The swimwear line includes a wide range of styles, so there’s something for every activity and every taste. Some of the suits were snug and fitted while others were buttery soft and incredibly comfortable. The mix of suits was ideal: I’d wear the one piece for heavy surf and the smaller cut suits for days relaxing on the beach.

Indigo Swimwear is a good brand with a good heart. Their suits are perfect for surfing, standup paddling, or just for hanging on the beach. Each piece is manufactured with love and with the environment in mind—count us in!
