Everything is bigger in Texas. Sure they have tasty BBQ. Yes, there are some friendly folks in the Lone Star State, but that’s not all! The 3rd annual Cinco de Mayo Pro is primed to rock the Texas coast in a big way May 5-8, 2016 down south in Corpus Christi. Make no mistake about it, this is a one of kind event for the SUP community.

The Texas style event boasts many firsts over its short history. To our knowledge Cinco de Mayo Pro is the only WPA sanctioned night racing under the lights and the only SUP wave-riding competition in Texas. The Cinco crew is ready to serve up some Texas sized helpings of cash too! This is not a one and done race.

The stand up paddling events kick off with a SUPEXPO from 2-6pm Friday, May 6th and then rolls over to the first ever OX Endurance Formula Sprint Races, aka  “Friday Night Lights” at North Padre Island’s Boathouse Bar & Grill. Spectators will have the opportunity to take in all the action up close from the Boathouse’s deck overlooking the water.

Saturday welcomes the Anchor PaddleBoards 5K SUP Race, Cinco Pro Wave-riding contest from the North Packery Channel Jetties into the Gulf of Mexico. The Cinco is always expanding and the organizers are looking forward to adding a 10K race in 2017 starting from the intracoastal waterway into the Gulf of Mexico.

Sure it’s enough to come for the drive-up wide open beaches and to die for BBQ and friendly Texas folks, but you’ll want to stay for the 11-events, four days and four venues of top-notch contests and events. SUP competitions aren’t the only thing happening on the four day weekend. World Champion Longboarder Guy Takayama will be leading the charge at the first ever G.T. Texas Nose-riding contest along with the 3rd annual Cinco de Mayo Longboard-Shortboard Pro/Am.

For the second year in a row, the Beach Slam Volleyball Tourney will be in full force with the ladies from Texas A&M Corpus Christi University hosting a volleyball team fundraiser. Last year there were over 20 teams of 4 on 4’s competing throughout the event.

If that is not enough, the 5th annual Atomic Omelette Beach Horseshoe tournament kicks off on Saturday bringing the true Texas beach vibe into full effect.
