About Conrad Rojas

Conrad literally began stand up paddling not long after he could stand and took his first strokes with his father at the ripe young age of three on June Lake in the Eastern Sierra Mountains near Mammoth Lakes, California. His budding competitive paddling career began at age seven when he joined The Paddle Academy in Dana Point not far from his hometown of San Clemente. Like many residents of the scenic Southern California coastal community, Conrad Rojas took to the ocean at an early age and is a San Clemente City Junior Lifeguard.

We sat down with Conrad’s parents in the spring of 2015 to talk about his passion and enthusiasm for stand up paddling to gain an inside look at what drives the young competitor.

What are his favorite subjects in school?

Conrad enjoys writing in school and anything related to technology.

Is Conrad involved in any other water sports in addition to SUP?

Yes, he was on the South Coast Aquatic Swim Team and enjoys surfing the local break near San Clemente.

What are some of Conrad’s notable stand up paddling accomplishments?

Conrad paddled three 6 mile races on Lake Tahoe last year. He was the youngest paddler racing against 12-18 year old competitors! Earlier this year, he paddled the Hanohano Huki Ocean Challenge 6 mile course and was the youngest paddler to compete in the 18 and under division.

His most notable achievement, however, was when he paddled 23 miles with his Dad from the Newport Beach Back Bay to Baby Beach in Dana Point Harbor in order to raise funds for the Ocean of Hope, a charity which raising awareness and funds for the Sarcoma Alliance.

Where is Conrad’s favorite place to paddle?

Riviera Beach in San Clemente.

What does he enjoy the most about stand up paddling?

He really enjoys meeting new friends in the SUP community and SUP Surfing.

Which competitions does he enjoy the most?

Conrad loves Race the Lake of the Sky because a lot of his friends live up there and the organizers always host a lot of fun kids events. He also loves the SUP Fiesta because he can take part in both SUP surfing and racing competitions. Plus it is a kids only event!

What is his favorite memory while paddling?

Conrad’s favorite memory to date is when he paddled 23 miles with his dad from the Newport Beach Back Bay to Baby Beach, Dana Point in support of the Ocean of Hope.

Is there someplace Conrad would like to paddle, but has yet to visit?

Yes, Indonesia!

What are his pursuits/areas of interest away from paddling?

Conrad enjoys playing Rugby with his team the Gators and playing Flag Football with his youth team, the New York Giants, in addition to surfing.
