Swimsuit Review: Pualani Hawai’i Stay-Put Suits

Pualani Hawai’i Feel the difference

When Candice Appleby, Shae Foudy, and Izzi Gomez all wear bikinis made by the same company, you know they’ve got something more going for them than just cute suits. While Pualani Hawai’i does offer a wide line of fun prints in a variety of flattering cuts, they make suits that stay in place, no matter the activity.

Pualani Hawai’i was founded by big-wave surfer and water-stunt woman Iwalani Isbell. Born and raised on the Big Island of Hawai’i, Iwalani spent a great deal of time in the water wearing a swimsuit. The inspiration for her swimwear line comes from her own experiences and active lifestyle. She set out to make swimsuits that make the wearer look and feel sexy, but stay put through any and every activity.

“Pualani Hawai’i makes the best suits for women who are active in and out of the water,” says team rider Shae Foudy. “They are the only suits I trust for racing because I know that they will stay on and at the same time are extremely comfortable. My favorite style suit would have to be the Skimpy Rio with side strings and the Sport Tie top!”

A watersports enthusiast myself, I’m always on the hunt for the perfect stay-put bikini. After hearing about Pualani Hawai’i a little over a year ago, I got in touch with the company and they sent me a couple of suits to test out. I’m happy to report that I’m in love and am already making plans to order suit number three.

It’s no secret that there are cheaper suits available on the market, but Pualani’s suits are made from the finest 4-way stretch European fabrics and the softest lingerie lining. Meaning they won’t stretch out after one summer of paddling! The quality of the suits is apparent—they feel good and hold their shape. After surfing, swimming, and paddling in my bikini for over a year, it still looks as good as they day I got it.

Pualani Hawai’i offers each print in a number of different styles—one-piece swimsuits, halter tops, tankinis, triangle tops, and surf leggings and shorts, to name a few. I opted for the “Sport Tie” top and the “Love Without the Handles” bottoms for one suit and the “Skimpy Scrunch Rio” bottoms for the other. The “Sport Tie” is a triangle top with a cross back top which helps it securely stay in place while taking some tension off the shoulders. The “Love Without the Handles” bottom is a full coverage option, while the “Skimpy Scrunch Rio” is more of a cheeky cut. Both have proven to be great options depending on the amount of coverage you’re looking for. As far as sizing goes, the size chart is pretty accurate and if you’re uncertain shoot Iwalani an email to get your questions answered.

Pualani Hawai’i is a rad company run by good people. They care about their customers and their experiences on the water—they make suits that stay in place so all you have left to worry about is having fun. See you on the water.
