Costa® Sunglasses has released Mark Healey’s signature frame, the Sampan. Designed for adventure seekers who live their best life in and around the water, the collaboration with Healey was crafted to fit his laidback style while providing the performance attributes demanded wherever there’s salt or sand.
As a champion big-wave surfer, spear fisherman and Costa ambassador, Mark Healey is driven by his love of the water and all the adventures and activities that surround it. A native of Oahu’s North Shore, Healey was first introduced to surfing at the age of three by his father and has spent the majority of his life in the ocean. Sampan combines innovative technical features and modern styling in a frame that is built to keep up with those who share the passion for those same pursuits.
“The ocean and the wind are the only things that dictate how and where I spend my time,” said Healey. “I’m on the water so much that a pair of sunglasses isn’t just a luxury item, it’s a necessity. And Costa understands how important it is for my signature frame to be able to withstand all the ocean’s demands.”
Thanks to his enviable lifestyle, Healey gets to enjoy some of the best views on the planet so it is only fitting that the Sampan gets the best lenses in the world. The sunglasses feature the Costa patented color-enhancing 580® lens technology in both Lightwave® glass and impact-resistant polycarbonate. The Costa 580 lens technology provides 100 percent UV protection and polarization, and selectively filters out harsh yellow light for superior contrast and definition while absorbing high-energy blue light to cut haze and enhance sharpness. In addition, it reduces glare and eye fatigue, and its Lightwave glass is 20 percent thinner and 22 percent lighter than average polarized glass.
“We used Mark Healey’s adventurous lifestyle and passion for our watery world as a source of inspiration for Sampan,” said Casey Lopez, performance product manager at Costa. “Mark completely embodies our core values at Costa and this frame was designed for people who, like Mark, live their best lives on the water.”
Sampan is a medium fit and available in four color options – Matte Black, Matte Black Ultra, Matte Tortoise and Matte Reef. The new style ranges in price from $189 to $269 depending on lens selection. For more information on Sampan and the full line of Costa sunglasses, visit CostaSunglasses.com.
