In Brief

Kialoa and Werner Paddles merge

Kialoa, founded in 1991 by Hawaii native Dave Chun, has merged with Werner Paddles as of January 1st. The Kialoa name will live on as a brand within the Werner Paddles family and will continue to operate out of its current home in Bend, Oregon. At the height of the stand up paddling boom, Kialoa sold 19,000 paddles a year. In 2018, sales had declined to 10,500 paddles. Werner, a family owned business in Monroe, Washington, has been making canoe, kayak and stand-up paddles for more than 50 years. The merger will provide Kialoa access to lower cost operating components, while allowing Dave and his wife Meg to focus their energy on sales, marketing, and of course, designing new paddles.

Ray Nosse joined the Performance Paddling Training Club in the summer of 2015.  For several months he trained consistently, enjoyed racing with fellow team members, and set a goal of completing a long distance race. He achieved this goal, completing a 22-mile race in Lake Tahoe.  Not long after he started having back pain and was diagnosed with cancer. He fought, and fought, but eventually lost his battle. In December of 2015, during his fight with cancer, Anthony Vela and several members of the Performance Paddling Training Club wanted to show their support and the Paddle4Ray was born.
