Review: The Sea Eagle FishSUP™

Standup paddling is likely the most versatile forms of paddling the world has ever experienced and the uses for standup paddleboards (SUPs). From simple recreational paddling, fitness, racing, yoga and even fishing. The aptly named Sea Eagle FishSUP™ has set a new standard in the latter category with its compact inflatable design and ability to accessorize with a wide range of extras.

Standard features on the Sea Eagle FishSUP™ include the following:

  • Easy to use while sitting or standing
  • 4” nose rocker for easing through chop
  • 40” wide swallowtail for exceptional stability
  • Slip resistant EVA deckpad
  • Built-in 36” fish ruler
  • Paddle Pocket for securing your paddle
  • More than a dozen D rings and grab handles

When stepping aboard the Sea Eagle FishSUP™ Inflatable Fishing Boat I immediately was impressed by it’s incredible stability.  There was no worry of tipping or falling off the craft whatsoever. I found I could easily move from a standing to sitting position without a problem.

The seat is unexpectedly comfortable with a convenient swivel feature.  It is great to have the option of this lower profile position to avoid spooking the fish.  Even though the seat is low I was able to have full range of motion when casting.

The spacious platform is a generous 40” wide, which makes maneuvering and re-positioning very easy.  I was also able to secure all my gear by clipping into the D-rings or stowing it under the elastic bungee cord.

The craft was so stable that I even took my 4-year old son out on the lake with me without concern of being crowded or unsteady.  I stood to paddle us to the prime fishing spot on the lake then took a seat to cast while he sat on the platform in front of me. There was plenty of room for us both, plus the tackle box and a few snacks.  On our first cast we caught a nice large mouth bass. Although we didn’t score any prize catches that day, the built-in ruler was great detail we put to use.

I was not using a trailer to move the FishSUP™, but I would recommend one if you are not inflating this SUP right at the water.  Though it is certainly more portable than a fishing boat, the size and weight can be awkward for one person to carry on their own.

All in all, the FishSUP™ is an amazing alternative to a traditional single person fishing boat. With the board’s shallow draft I could easily access all locations on my local lake, even gliding over sections covered with a heavy layer of moss.
