There’s more than one way to keep things green!

In 2016 Jocelyn Kotulla (Jocy) embarked on a mission to create the perfect surf bikini. She combined design, functionality, and sustainability into one to create a suit that allows women to follow their passions on the water. Each piece in their swimwear collection is tested by a team of athletes before they are available for purchase.

The bikinis are made in Hamburg, Germany in the company’s own production facility. It’s important to the company that they do all the manufacturing on their home turf as it allows them to ensure fair trade, good working conditions, and that the suits adhere to their high standards. Sustainable materials, such as discarded fishing nets and other waste products, are selected for fabrics and special sewing machines are used to create the ultimate bikini. The suits are made to last but if damaged should occur, the company urges customers to send them in for repair as opposed to trashing them.

As an avid surfer and standup paddler, I’m always on the hunt for perfect stay-put swimwear.

Jocy sent me the Orkan Swimsuit as well as the Mistral Surfsuit to test out. The Orkan is a one-piece swimsuit with UV protection and cute back cut-outs. The Mistral is a long-sleeve sun protection surf suit with UV protection and a front zipper for maximum comfort.

The suits are made especially for you upon your order, so delivery can take up to 3-4 weeks. Swimsuits are delivered in recycled packaging with a note printed on recycled paper.

The first thing I noticed about the suits is how well they are made. While some bikinis stretch out after one summer of wear, these suits are made to last and I have no doubt that will be with me for many surf sessions to come. The material is on the thick side with allows for comfort and support while surfing.

The Orkan is one of the best surf suits I have ever come across. The fit is snug and secure, allowing my focus to be on the waves and not on my bikini. The Mistral is a great option when you’re looking for a little extra sun protection or something to cut the wind on those in between season sessions. All suits come in fun prints and the fact that they are sustainably made is the icing on the cake.

At Josea Swimwear they stress that you should love what you do, follow your passion, and dare to take risks. They’ve created the suit to help you do just that.
